With my heart shattered, I announce the sudden, unexpected passing of my best friend, soul mate and husband Don Boyd, beloved father of our daughters Crystal and April, cherished grandpa to Clayton, Carly, Hannah, Gage and our angel baby Nora. Left to mourn his loss, siblings Glenna & Blake Metcalfe, Larry Boyd and Deborah Boyd along with our nieces and nephews, dear friends, family & neighbors. Don is predeceased by his parents Edward & Lillian Boyd. Don’s life was vibrant, creative and always filled with many passions & activities. He loved working in the garden, curling, skiing, sailing, camping, fishing & canoeing. He was always open to challenging himself to learn new skills & try new things. He was a lover of nature, music and most of all, family. One of his greatest joys was traveling with our girls and grandchildren and spending time together was always top of his list. Don loved contributing to the community around him wherever he was. He was a member of the Optimist Club, the Fergus-Elora Curling Club, The Sailing Club and past volunteer with the Big Brothers/ Big Sisters of Centre Wellington. He worked for 43 years at Nexans Fergus where he became a union steward and he served on the executive board for Local IBEW 636.Don was always quick to lend a hand and to give to others. He loved trying to brighten someone’s day with a joke or a smile or by putting a little something in the pocket of someone who needed it. He was the most unselfish, kind, humble, patient person I have ever known. He lived every day with humor, love & kindness. Every day with him was a gift and an adventure and he made my day, my week, my month and my last 50 years. We would have celebrated our 50 year wedding anniversary in September this year. Instead, I invite you all to come and join me in celebrating his life. Visitation: Friday August 5, 7pm- 9pm & Saturday August 6 at 1-3pm. 3 pm Words from the Family & Refreshments. Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, Fergus. In lieu of flowers, donations in Don’s memory can be made to Big Brother/ Big Sisters of Centre Wellington & the Terry Fox Foundation.
