MINTO – A Garden of the Year contest is underway here in celebration of the Canada-wide Year of the Garden.
“We are excited to see how your gardens bloom this season,” organizers state.
The contest, hosted by the Town of Minto and horticultural societies in Harriston and Clifford offers prizes in several categories, including: People’s Choice, Canadian Feature and overall winner.
Gardens will be judged on:
– general appeal and neatness (including walkways and hardscape features);
– layout and use of colour;
– incorporating the colour red to represent the Year of the Garden; and
– originality and effectiveness of a unique feature celebrating Canada.
The entry deadline has closed and participants must submit three to four photos of their gardens by Aug. 1.
Photos can be submitted by emailing erin@town.minto.on.ca.
Local residents will be invited to stop by participating gardens on Aug. 13 and final judging will be held on Aug. 27.
An awards ceremony is planned for a date to be determined.
