HARRISTON – The Harriston Rising committee is bringing back the ultimate summer street festival.
The downtown Harriston Street Party kicks off Aug. 13 with breakfast hosted by the Harriston Legion from 7:30 to 11am.
The festivities will continue in downtown Harriston on Elora Street, between Arthur St. and Mill St.
The festival will coincide with the Leslie Motors Classic Car Show. Attendees can check out antique Ford, Mercury and Lincoln vehicles lining the downtown from 9am-2pm. To register a vehicle go to lesliemotors.com.
From 10am to 2pm, a variety of family-focused activities will take place, including a makers’ market, sidewalk sales, face-painting, free balloons, music, food trucks, a Legion’s beverage garden and more.
“Keep your eyes peeled because Roberto the Magician will be performing unforgettable tricks that will have you wondering how he did it,” organizers note.
Between 2pm and 4pm the street will transform into an Arts and Culture Crawl which will feature live music, activities hosted by local cultural community groups, and local artists crafting live in the street. Residents are encouraged to bring their own art supplies to paint En Plein Air in the company of other local artists.
Most activities are free, but anyone interested in a guided painting experience (all supplies included) with local barn-quilt enthusiastic, Bonnie Dopfer should visit www.harristonrising.ca to purchase tickets.
Tickets will also be sold in advance only for this year’s BBQ on the Boulevard. For $25, diners will receive a half-chicken dinner, complete with sides and dessert, grown or prepared by local businesses and organizations, such as Harwill Farms, Harriston Bakery, Harriston Legion, and the Harriston-Minto Agricultural Society.
The event offers a unique dining experience as diners may eat in the street or take a meal to go.
Dinner tickets also include free admission to the evening’s Street Dance. To purchase tickets, visit www.harristonrising.ca.
Those of age of majority are welcome downtown for the annual Harriston Street Dance from 8pm to 12am. A $5 cover charge will apply.
“We’re so excited to be bringing the Harriston Street Party back in such a big way,” says Town of Minto marketing and community development coordinator Erin Raftis.
“The community has come together to offer an amazing line-up of events that will keep you busy all day long,” she adds.
“We urge you to visit the website to learn more and to purchase tickets for the BBQ on the Boulevard early so you don’t miss out on such a delicious way to support local,” Raftis states
