Grove Guelph Wellington launches July programs

WELLINGTON COUNTY – The Grove Guelph Wellington is running a new selection of programs for July at its hub locations across Wellington County.

The programs are “designed by youth for youth,” states a press release.

This is done by collaborating with a youth engagement working group and asking youth walk-ins how they’d like to see the hubs run, said executive director Cyndy Moffat Forsyth.

While the hubs offer a  range of programs, three are brand new this month:

– automobile basics, which features “a volunteer from the community will talk about the history of auto mechanics, teach youth about the fluids in cars, how to check tire pressure, put air in a tire, how to do a safety inspection before driving… so it’s a basic 101 course,” said Forsyth;

– the Woolen Mills kitchen cooking and baking program, “where you can learn how to cook or bake by a nutritionist,” she said. The first two sessions of the program prepare baking goods for a bake sale; and

– finger weaving, “is being facilitated by Metis Nation of Ontario, providing education to youth on the history of First Nation, Metis and Inuit peoples,” states the press release.

Programs vary by hub location, explained skills and well being coordinator Sarah Leitch and very few require pre-registration.
