ERIN – The Town of Erin has recently received $100,000 in federal funding to go towards the town’s tourism sector.
Council approved the Tourism Relief Fund grant from Central Counties Tourism in the amount of $100,000 on June 30 and authorized the funds to be used by Dec. 31.
Council authorized staff to use the grant for the following items:
- a series of three Christmas Market events to be held in McMillan Park;
- a new Town of Erin Tourism and Business Attraction magazine; and
- to continue to offer professional development workshops for the creative sector via the Erin Entrepreneurial Hub.
Town officials note no dates have been set for the Christmas Market events at this time.
The funding comes from a FedDev Ontario commitment of $68.5 million in federal dollars going towards Ontario’s 11 regional tourism offices and Indigenous Tourism Ontario.
“The Town of Erin economic development office is committed to helping businesses grow and succeed,” stated economic development officer Robyn Mulder.
“This grant is to further this cause – bring more people into our downtowns by offering fun events. The more traffic we have, businesses get more exposure.”
