Passed away peacefully, in his 87th year, with his family by his side on Sunday June 26th, 2022, at Pinehaven Nursing Home. Married to the love of his life Patsy (Breen) for over 63 years, much loved father of Ron (Andra), Todd, and Bob (Cheryl). He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Sara (Jason) Thiessen, Troy (Sami) Rosenow, Conor (Natalie) Williams, Corey (Kaitlyn) Williams, and Cody (Kaelyn) Williams, and great-granddaughter Sophie Rose Thiessen. Predeceased by his sisters Marie (Lou) Cremasco, Donna Ladd, Colleen (Richard) Ellerbeck, and brothers Wilfred, Raymond, Carney, Gary and Bill. Survived by his sisters Geraldine Williams and Pat (Bob) Thorpe, sisters-in-law Evelyn Williams and Donna Williams, and many nieces and nephews. Doug will be remembered for his quick one liners and the ability to make people laugh and smile. He loved sharing good times with friends and family and enjoyed singing and playing the guitar at many gatherings throughout the years. Red was actively involved in the standardbred racing community for over 50 years, as an owner, trainer and driver on many of Ontario’s tracks. He enjoyed the horses and it created an opportunity for family and friends to gather to watch the races. Win or lose, there was always a story to tell and a beer to be had afterwards. Special thanks to the staff at Pinehaven Nursing Home in Waterloo for their care and concern for the past seven months. Arrangements entrusted to Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St. A private internment will take place at a later date.
