WELLINGTON COUNTY – Canada Day parties will return with a bang and fireworks will light up the night across Wellington County after two years of scaled down celebrations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Minto
An early celebration will be held in Minto on June 26.
Crossroads Life Church in Harriston will once again be hosting a Canada Day celebration on a field adjacent to the church at 99 Young Street. Festivities are set to begin at 6pm, with fireworks at dusk.
The 12th annual Clifford Antique and Classic Truck Show show will also take place in Minto on Canada Day. Hosted by the Great Lakes Truck Club, the Clifford event runs both July 1 and 2 at Rotary Park. The show runs from 9am to 8pm both Friday and Saturday.
Mapleton
The Township of Mapleton is hosting a Canada Day celebration at the fairgrounds in Drayton on July 1.
From 2 to 7pm there will be bouncy castles, a balloon artist, face painting and food, followed by a performance by MooreBand until 10pm, when fireworks will begin.
Wellington North
In Arthur, Canada Day will be celebrated in conjunction with the village’s 150th anniversary festivities, which take place July 1 to 3.
July 1 events include a historical walk from the David M. Kozinets Centre at 9am, children’s programs at the Arthur Curling club from 9am to 4pm and opening ceremonies at 11am at the cenotaph.
The afternoon will feature ball tournaments, 150th anniversary cake sampling, a meet and greet at the arena, the grand opening of the Brent Barnes Memorial Skatepark and the Arthur 150th anniversary parade downtown at 3pm.
Evening activities include a sold out concert at the community centre featuring Practically Hip, free swimming at the local pool and an Arthur District High School Class of ’77 reunion at the curling club.
The local Lions club is also hosting a chicken barbecue dinner from 4 to 6pm (advance tickets only) with pickup at St. John’s Parish Centre.
