GUELPH – A total of 42 charges were issued during a commercial vehicle safety blitz here on June 16, including the driver of one large truck who was taken off the road for three days for having alcohol in his system.
Guelph Police partnered with officers from Wellington County OPP and Waterloo Regional Police for the blitz, which targeted commercial vehicles operating on Guelph streets.
“Four certified commercial truck inspectors participated, as well as two officers who have completed the frontline officer commercial motor vehicle enforcement course,” Guelph Police stated in a June 20 press release.
“The purpose of the blitz was to target unsafe vehicles. A total of 15 trucks were inspected, with 11 of them found to have serious enough defects that they needed to be corrected before the vehicle could continue on its way.”
Charges laid included insecure load, failing to complete daily inspections, defective brakes and improper means of attachment.
Guelph Police officials say they are planning more safety blitzes “to ensure the safety of everyone on our roads.”
