SHANNON, Murray

Murray Dickson Shannon of Eugenia passed away at Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, in his 70th year. Husband of Debbie Clark. Father of Keely Shannon & Mark Calder of Seaforth, Jessie Shannon & Darryl Beach of Hamilton, and Clare Shannon & Paul Rudd of Waterloo. Stepfather of Brandon & Keith Barkhouse-Morrison of Eugenia, and Edan “Moose” McMullen of Eugenia. Grandfather of Conner and Wylie Beach, Buster Rudd, and Aaron, Nash, and Baby R. Barkhouse-Morrison. Brother of Mary Kaye & Larry Hudson of Listowel, Margie & James Cox of Cambridge, Beth & Roger MacDonald of Kincardine, Cindy & David Richenback of Harriston, and Jane & Greg Rea of London. Predeceased by parents Chester ‘Chet’ and Marjory (Ziegler) Shannon. Murray was born in Palmerston and grew up in Harriston as a middle child between his five saintly sisters. We know from his report cards that he was not a star student with his teachers writing he had a liking for water pistols and lighters. Even though he didn’t excel academically at school he excelled socially. He was the Quarterback of the Norwell Redmen, and the vice president of the student council. He always bragged that grade 9 was the best 3 years of his life. He later excelled as a carpenter and had an eye for detail and created so many amazing things. Murray was a Line Man for Hydro One and eventually Vallard in Guelph, Barrie, Walkerton and Toronto. Sports were an important part of his life, and as a lifelong Blue Jays fan he was able to go and travel to watch them play. The highlight of his sporting career was making it to the Nokia Cup for curling in 1999. Cooking was a passion, and was always willing to provide “feedback” where needed. He loved being around children and that was his greatest accomplishment being a grampa/poppa. Most importantly, Murray was a lover of good times and always had a joke or a story to tell. We look forward to hearing about them at his Celebration of Life. A Celebration of Murray’s Life will be held at the Harriston Legion on Saturday, June 4, 2022 from 1:00 to 4:00pm with words of remembrance at 2:00pm. Memorial donations to the Harriston Legion, Mary Lynne Forrest Foundation, or Royal Victoria Hospital Foundation would be appreciated, and may be made through the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston.
