Watch out – Drivers should take extra caution now that signs for nine community safety zones have gone up throughout Wellington County. As part of Public Works Week, and the result of the work of the Wellington County roads committee, the zones mean there will be more enforcement and higher fines for speeding in these zones. Here roads committee chair Andy Lennox and Warden Kelly Linton put the sign up on Belsyde Avenue (County Road 18) near Tower Street in Fergus on May 16.
The other community safety zones include: East Mill Street (Wellington Road 18) in Elora between Chapel and Kerland streets; Wellington Road 7 (Elora) from McNab Street to Speers Road; Wellington Road 124 (Trafalgar Road) from Church to 75 metres north of Jane Street in Hillsburgh; Wellington Road 124 (Main Street) from East Church Street to Millwood Road in Erin; Wellington Road 11 (Wellington Street South) from Andrews Drive to Spring Street in Drayton; Wellington Road 123 (Main Street) between Henry and York streets in Palmerston; Wellington Road 26 (Brock Road South from 225 metres north of Old Brock Road to 300 metres south of Old Brock Road in Aberfoyle; and Wellington Road 6 (Sligo Road East) from 50 metres west of Church Street North to 125 metres west of London Road North in Mount Forest.
”I’m looking forward to seeing the positive impact in driver behaviour,” said Linton adding that now that the zones are in place, the roads committee will explore automated speed enforcement in those zones.
