Elora Sculpture Project launches new season

ELORA – The Elora Sculpture Project is pleased to announce their 2022 outdoor exhibition officially opened May 15 and will run until Oct. 15.

There are 13 sites in Elora, and five in Fergus.  Each will host a unique piece of artwork for the Elora Sculpture Project’s 12th season.

The featured sculptures have been selected by a jury, with entries submitted by artists throughout Ontario and as far away as British Columbia.

“We’ve had a very good selection of sculptures [submitted] to choose from,” said Sculpture Project interim chair David Cross, adding that there were some very talented artists who weren’t chosen because they only had 18 slots.

The first of the sculptures were installed May 7 and the remainder will appear over the next week.

Most sculptures will be available for purchase.

Details and artist contacts will be presented on a plaque at each site and on maps that will be available from township tourism locations and local businesses.

The Elora Sculpture Project has become a popular fixture in the community showcasing a new collection of works each year.

Details will also be found at elorasculpture.ca.

Major sponsors for this year are Granite Homes and Kat Florence.

Other small businesses and art-loving citizens also sponsor each site to raise funds for the artists’ honorariums.

COVID didn’t have a direct impact to the event as the exhibition is outdoors, but  the Elora Sculpture project hasn’t been able to host an artists’ reception for the past two years reception due to the pandemic.

That’s a pattern they are hoping to break this year, officials say, although firm plans have yet to be made.
