WELLINGTON COUNTY – There are 247 confirmed active cases of COVID-19 throughout the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) region as of May 17, a 26 per cent decrease from 333 cases reported on May 10.
As of Tuesday, there are 51 known active cases in Wellington County, 45 in Dufferin County, and 147 in Guelph.
Provincial health officials admit limited access to COVID testing has resulted in an under-representation of how many active cases there truly are in the province.
Hospitalizations
As of May 12, there were 17 people testing positive for the virus who were admitted to WDGPH region hospitals, of which two were in an ICU.
On May 8, 29 COVID-positive individuals were admitted.
Vaccinations
Across the WDGPH region, as of May 11, there are 157,034 people (58% of those 12 and older) who have received three vaccine doses, 259,188 people (88% of those five and older) who have received two doses and 7,766 have received a single dose.
At the county level, as of May 11, there are 49,797 people in Wellington (58.6% of those 12 and older) who have received three vaccine doses, 80,198 people (86.2% of those five and older) who have received two doses, and 2,297 have received a single dose.
Deaths
There have been two new deaths attributed to COVID-19 in the health region, raising the death toll from 161 last week to 163 as of May 17.
Outbreaks
On May 16, WDGPH declared an outbreak in the ‘A’ and ‘B’ wings of a Caressant Care long-term care home in Harriston. Two residents have tested positive.
