Impaired, drug charges, improper license
On May 5 at approximately 3pm a Wellington County OPP officer stopped a commercial motor vehicle on St. Andrew Street West in Fergus.
As a result of the investigation the driver, a 38-year-old from Guelph, was charged with driving a commercial motor vehicle – improper licence and failing to wear a seat belt contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
The two passengers, a 25-year-old from Guelph and 32-year-old from Kitchener, have both been charged with failing to wear seat belts contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
As a result of further investigation, the business, a moving company out of Guelph, has been charged with permit person with improper licence to drive commercial motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
No insurance, valid plates
ERIN – On April 25 at about 10am, a Wellington County OPP officer initiated a traffic stop on a red coupe on Sideroad 17 here.
A 36-year-old from Guelph was charged with driving without insurance, driving without a validated plate, failing to surrender a permit and obstructing a plate. The defendant is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
Commercial vehicle charges
ELORA – On April 26 at about 10am, a Wellington County OPP officer initiated a traffic stop on a commercial vehicle in a school zone on East Mill Street here.
A 41-year-old from Woodstock was charged with speeding and failure to carry an inspection schedule.
A business out of Petersburg, west of Kitchener, was charged with failing to ensure a daily inspection report is accurately completed.
FERGUS – On April 26 at about 11:30am, a Wellington County OPP officer initiated a traffic stop on a commercial vehicle on Tower Street South here.
As a result of further investigation, a Guelph business was charged with driving a commercial vehicle without a valid commercial vehicle operator’s registration certificate, and driving a vehicle without a validated permit.
MAPLETON – On April 26 at about 3:30pm, a Wellington County OPP officer initiated a traffic stop on a commercial motor vehicle on Highway 6 here.
A 27-year-old from Fergus was charged with failing to surrender a completed daily inspection report and failing to display two plates.
A business in Chilliwack was charged with operating a commercial vehicle without a valid commercial vehicle operator’s registration certificate certificate and failing to ensure a daily inspection report is accurately completed.
GUELPH – On April 25 at about 3:30pm, a Wellington County OPP officer initiated a traffic stop on a commercial motor vehicle on Imperial Road North here.
A 78-year-old from Ariss was charged with driving a commercial vehicle with no license, defective braking system on a commercial vehicle, insecure load, driving a commercial vehicle with a load not secured, and two counts of driving overweight on tires.
The defendant is to appear in Guelph court at a later date. The vehicle was also taken out of service for safety defects.
Speeding
GUELPH – On May 2 at approximately 10am, a West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement member stopped the driver of black sedan on the Hanlon Expressway North in Guelph. The driver was observed travelling at a speed that was well above the 80km/hr posted limit. As a result of an investigation, Mississauga resident Renata Monika Kopec, 50, was charged with racing a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court in Guelph.
