Invincible Summer latest show at Minto Arts Gallery

HARRISTON – The Minto Arts Council is presenting a show by artist, Joann Quigg.

Entitled Invincible Summer the show runs from May 4 to 20. An artist’s reception will take place on May 7 from 1 to 3pm at the Minto Arts Gallery.

“As a committed art lover Joann Quigg continues studying and learning new processes after spending 33 years as an arts educator at the elementary, secondary and university levels,” gallery officials state. She has travelled widely to visit art galleries in North America, Europe, and as far as Egypt.

Over the past 20 years, Quigg has volunteered her time as a docent/gallery guide at the Art Gallery of Ontario. She was an adjunct professor with Niagara University in the area of teacher education (Visual Arts), and currently works with the Rotman School of Management (University of Toronto) in a program that is called New Ways of Seeing for Health Care Professionals.

“Her current work came after a dark winter and her rediscovery of the process of drying botanicals and melding those with painting and collages of handmade Asian papers,” officials state.

“These works are made from dried natural substances. The biologicals such as leaves, florals, seeds and stems, and occasional insects and shells are made into acrylic skins via the use of clear gel mediums after being pressed and dried in a microwave.

“This latest artistic development has opened the door to her professional practice as an artist, away from academic pursuits, providing the inspiration for this particular ongoing series.”

The gallery is located on the top floor of the Harriston Public Library at 88 Mill Street.
