DRAYTON – The Drayton Fair is back.
The Drayton Mapleton Agricultural Society will welcome fairgoers to Another Day in Fairadise, the theme for this year’s agricultural exhibition, Aug. 5 to 7.
The fair includes truck and tractor pulls, a demolition derby, livestock competitions, several new children’s activities, food vendors, pet show, baby show, and a wide variety of competitions and exhibits including culinary classes, roots and vegetables, youth competitions, home crafts and more.
“2022 is the year that we say a fond goodbye to our traditional fair book,” explains agricultural society president John Foster.
“We are fully embracing modern technology and replacing the fair book by using social media and our newly revamped website, www.draytonfair.ca. We hope to be able to reach more people with timely information.
“We are excited about the possibilities the internet gives us to highlight our events and our sponsors. Plus, we will include printed flyers for those who prefer paper.”
In addition to the fair, several other events are planned, starting with a Mother’s Day weekend takeout dinner on May 7.
A full meal of ham, scalloped potatoes, mixed vegetables, coleslaw, dinner roll and choice of cheesecake, carrot cake or lemon pie is on offer for $20 per dinner.
To order and reserve pickup time, email draytonagsociety@gmail.com or call Arlie at 519-638-3323.
The 50th Camping and Jamming weekend will be hosted at the fairgrounds Aug. 26 to 28.
Organizers state the event will include “toe tapping music,” and a brand-new act for 2022. Tickets will be available for a roast beef supper on Aug. 27.
After a successful introduction in 2021, the Drayton Fall Harvest Festival will be returning on Oct. 1.
Organizers are planning to host sunflower and pumpkin growing competitions, a car rally, vendors, and the high-flying Pumpkin’ Chunkin’ competition. A takeout dinner prepared by local 4H will be on offer.
“We are so looking forward to seeing our friends, old and new,” said agricultural society treasurer Arlie Zantinge.
“As you can imagine, it takes a village to put on events like these, and we are always looking for sponsors and volunteers to help us out.”
