Pre-deceased by his grandparents, Campbell & Janet Lamont, Dora & Charles James, uncle Gord James and in-laws, Brian & Margie Killen. Rick grew up on Strathbrae Farms in Guelph-Eramosa Township and although he left farming to become a mechanic, he never lost his love for farming. After leaving Schnieders as a truck mechanic, he worked for Bloomingdale Farms, and often ended up working the fields of the farm he grew up on. He also enjoyed his model tractor collection and competing in tractor pulls with his 1959 Farmall 560 tractor. Rick loved life, family and friends and nothing made him happier than to sit and chat about tractors and the history of Guelph-Eramosa Township, most recently the history of Guelph Township S.S. #5, the one he attended with many of the friends he still has today. Rick began his long battle with cancer 16 years ago and in 2015, received a stem cell transplant which gave him a second chance on life. During his battle he was supported by a great team of doctors and nurses and his family would like to especially thank Dr. Trainor and Dr. Chippin (GPs), Dr. McCarron, Dr. Hubay, Dr. Al-Battran, Jeannette & Sandy (Grand River Cancer Centre), Dr. Walker, Tammy & Gavin (Juravinski Cancer Centre), Dr. Ergaie, and Dr. Racz. We would also like to thank his palliative care team, Dr. Yew, nurses Diane & Elvis, as well as the wonderful staff at Innisfree House. As Rick has donated the gift of learning to the Human Anatomy Program, University of Guelph, there will be no funeral. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Rick’s life on Sunday, May 29 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, Breslau, Ontario. In remembrance of Rick’s life, we ask that any charitable donations be made to The Canadian Cancer Society or the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society.
Those we love don’t go away,
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and always dear
