RIDER, Benjamin David

August 18, 1991 - April 10, 2022

It is with immense sadness that the family of Ben Rider announces his sudden passing on Sunday April 10, 2022. Ben passed away at home in his sleep at the age of 30. Benjamin David Rider is the beloved son of Mary Rider of Guelph (Gord Mathieu), and Frank Rider of Ariss (Sue Miller). Ben is also so loved and will be deeply missed by his siblings Phil Rider (Chelsea), Corina Rider (Cayne), and Frankie Rider, and by Adam Miller, Becki Miller, Amanda Pitcher and Marc Mathieu. Ben is survived by his grandmother Eunice Drumm and his aunts and uncles, Terry and Jerry Wilson, Mike Drumm, Larry and Mag Drumm, Dan and Wanda Drumm, Annie and Ted Paul, Rod and Carol Drumm, Dan Rider (Cindy), Dave Rider (Lynda), Connie and Keith McTaggart, Sue Jacklin, Patti Alberts (late Tom) and by his Godparents Bill and Laura Zinger. Ben is also survived by 23 first cousins. Ben is predeceased by his grandparents, Frank J. Rider, Catherine Rider- Moyer and Clarence (Sonny) Drumm and by aunts Sharron, Willie and his uncle Tom Rider. Ben was a kind and loving person. He never had a harsh word against anyone. He loved animals and sports, and was a master with statistics. He was a minimalist, and never envious of others. What began as just a job at Stayfit/Everything Fitness became a passion and an extended family. He loved Gary and Mike. That gym was his home away from home. Ben also thoroughly enjoyed working alongside Glen (Glen’s Senior Services) helping seniors in our community. Ben loved his good friends, Ryan, Alo, Tonino, Cory, Koelton, Lyle and so many others, both past and present. The family extends our sincerest appreciation to our first responders, the Guelph Police Service, Guelph Wellington Paramedic Service and Dr. David Fudge for their timely response and compassion. We also want to thank our extended families, friends and co-workers for all the outpouring of kindness and compassion we have been receiving during this extremely difficult time. Ben cherished his Germanic ancestry and as a direct descendant of the Hart family, visitation for Ben was held at the Hart Chapel of the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph, Ontario from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm on Tuesday, April 19, 2022. A Funeral Mass was held at 10:30am on Wednesday April 20, 2022 at Holy Rosary Church, 175 Emma St., Guelph, Ontario. Reception followed. Interment at St. Boniface Cemetery, Maryhill, Ontario will take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, charitable donations may be made to Epilepsy South Central Ontario or the St. Boniface Cemetery Fund or to your own charity of choice.
