ERIN – The organizers of an event here are asking the community to join them in celebrating Earth Day.
The town’s Environment and Sustainability Advisory Committee (ESAC) is hosting the event (rain or shine) on April 23 at McMillan Park, (109 Main Street) in Erin.
“Different groups have done things for Earth Day before, but this is the first big community event for Earth Day in Erin,” said co-organizer Jen Edwards, adding ESAC hopes to make it an annual event.
The event schedule is as follows:
– 10am to 12pm, garbage pickup with raffle and BBQ for volunteers. Bags will be provided;
– 12 to 3pm, tree giveaway from Green Legacy (while supplies last);
– 12 to 3pm, local vendors and exhibition; and
– 12 to 3pm, fun for kids: craft table, meet and greets with Legend, the Ojibwe pony, water ambassador Mermaid Jacey and Rocky the Paw Patrol mascot pup.
Tables will be set up by Credit Valley Conservation, Wellington County, Erin Seed Library, Cedar Valley Honey, Little Deer Drive, Busy Lizzy, The General Store, both Erin and Hillsburgh Garden Clubs and hopefully more, Edwards said.
While the event is centred at McMillan Park, people can pick up garbage in Hillsburgh or elsewhere in the town and bring it to the bin at the park.
“Earth Day is important because having a livable environment is important,” Edwards said.
