BAKER, Alan Joseph

Of Virgil, formerly of Mount Forest and Fergus, passed away peacefully at Greater Niagara General Hospital, Niagara Falls, on Saturday, April 2, 2022 in his 93rd year. Beloved husband of the late Jean Isobel Baker (2009). Cherished father of Jennifer Epp and husband Richard, of Parry Sound. Treasured grandfather to Christian Epp and wife Kayla Epp-Alseth, of Edmonton, AB; and Michaela Madigan-Epp and husband Nicholas Madigan, of Port Alberni, BC. Survived by his dear sister, Edna Morris; and by his brother, Stuart Baker and wife Roxie. Predeceased by his sisters: Beatrice Baker and Vera Landers and her husband Wallace; by his brothers: Earl and his wife, Ruby; Bob and his wife Margaret; and brother-in-law Michael Morris. Alan will be sadly missed by many nieces, extended family and friends. Alan retired from Canada Wire and Cable as an Electrical Inspector at the age 60, to spend more time with his sweetheart, Jeanie. Together, they enjoyed renovating their first house in Fergus, and later their second in Sundridge. Alan was always working on a series of creative projects and solutions to remedy problems around the home. He could fix or build almost anything cheaply, often recycling old materials – a legacy from his childhood during the great depression. He delighted in spending time with his daughter and grandchildren in whatever pursuits they wished. Alan also had great understanding of, and affinity for, all sorts of animals, who were as drawn to him as children were. The core of his being and life was his faith in Christ. His most precious possession was his much-read Bible. He could recognize verses, where they were found, and would express insightful thoughts into the passages easily. Though soft-spoken, and with gentleness and respect, he was always prepared to give an answer for his hope. Visitation will be held at England Funeral Home, 294 Main Street South, Mount Forest, on Thursday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00pm. The funeral service will be conducted at Mount Forest Pentecostal Church, 259 Fergus Street South, Mount Forest, on Friday, April 8, 2022 at 11:00am with a reception to follow.
