MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots won the first two games of their best of seven Provincial Junior Hockey League quarter-final series with the Walkerton Hawks.
The Patriots were 6-2 winners in game one, played in Walkerton on March 9.
Jordan Leitch scored three goals to lead the Mount Forest attack, while Darcy Winkler, Derrick Cornfield and Hayden Coulter each scored once. Winkler also picked up a pair of assists in the contest.
The Patriots blanked the Hawks by a 9-0 count in a March 11 home game.
Mount Forest was paced by a hat trick from Calan Tanzi-Foshay and a pair of goals from Hayden Coulter. Reid Caswell, Benjamin Tenhag and Derrick Cornfield added singles. Cornfield also picked up four assists for a five-point night.
A game slated for March 12 in Walkerton had to be cancelled due to inclement weather and the next contest was slated for March 16 in Mount Forest.
Further action is scheduled for March 18 in Walkerton at 8:30pm and, if necessary, March 19 in Mount Forest at 8pm and March 20 in Mount Forest at 3pm.
