Township buys property on Beatty Line for road, intersection improvements

ELORA – Centre Wellington Township will spend a total of $136,000 to purchase property for road improvements to Beatty Line North in Fergus.

Mayor Kelly Linton announced at the beginning of open session at its Feb. 28 meeting that council had approved the purchases in closed session.

The purchases include a portion of:

  • 6483 Beatty Line North for the purposes of a traffic daylight triangle – $5,000;
  • 6472 Beatty Line North for a two-metre widening of the existing road allowance – $5,000;
  • 6470 Beatty Line North for a daylight triangle and a two-metre widening of the existing road allowance – $74,000;
  • 6450 Beatty Line North for a two-metre widening of the existing road allowance – $4,000; and
  • 599 Hill Street West for a three-metre widening of the existing road allowance – $48,000.

Linton said roadwork includes adding sidewalks, a roundabout and intersection improvements along Beatty Line.

With new housing in the area, plus the new Groves Memorial Community Hospital, Beatty Line has been identified in the Transportation Master Plan as a major north-south artery in Fergus.
