WELLINGTON NORTH – Wellington North Fire Services responded to a fire outside of Arthur on the morning of Feb. 25.
At 7:56am on Friday, around 30 volunteer firefighters began responding from Mount Forest and Arthur stations to a structure fire along Highway 6 between Arthur and Petherton.
Arthur residents reported hearing sirens travelling in and out of the village over social media on Friday morning.
The Minto Fire Department also responded from Harriston, providing tanker trucks to shuttle water to the rural address on Highway 6.
A drive shed with a tractor and snow removal equipment inside was fully engulfed in flames when fire trucks pulled up to the scene at 8:13am.
Firefighters were up against high winds and icy conditions while focusing their efforts on protecting surrounding grain bins from exposure to the flames, explained Callise Loos, deputy chief for both Wellington North and Minto fire services.
Water was applied to drown out the blaze, but the drive shed could not be saved and was completely destroyed, said Loos, who was unable to provide a damage estimate.
No one was in the building at the time of the fire, she added, and there were no injuries sustained in fighting the fire.
A block heater is the suspected cause of the blaze.
With the matter now being dealt with by the owner’s insurance provider, Loos confirmed there would be no further investigation.
