Big Brothers Big Sisters of Centre Wellington hosts Big Night Out gala in person and virtually

CENTRE WELLINGTON – With COVID-19 cases declining and provincial restrictions easing, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Centre Wellington (BBBSCW) is ready to celebrate with the return of the Big Night Out Gala.

Co-sponsored by MFC Law Professional Corporation and RLB Chartered Professional Accountants, the Kentucky Derby themed “Growing the Winner’s Circle” gala will take place on March 26 at the GrandWay Event Centre in Elora.

There is a virtual option available for those not yet ready to attend large gatherings as well with an edible concession box prepared by The Evelyn, in Elora.

“We are so excited to be able to see our supporters again, but equally thrilled to be able to offer a fun-filled way to participate from home as well,” said BBBSCW board chair Pam Stumpf.

“Despite the challenges of the past two years we are thrilled that so many of our matches have persevered.”

Each year at the gala, the organization recognizes a youth with the Outstanding Little Award and an “above and beyond” volunteer as their Big Star.

This year, the Outstanding Little to be recognized is 17-year-old Nicole Spring of Fergus.

Nicole has overcome some significant life challenges even before she met her Big Sister Karen Karnis, at the young age of 11.

As part of this award, Nicole will receive a bursary from the award sponsor, Motion Electrical Contracting/Motion Heat and Cool. The Big Star Award will go to Big Brother Denis Craddock, who is so proud to be a Big Brother.

Those who have taken in a Brew House virtual trivia night will understand how significant this match is in Denis’ world and how much of an impact this friendship has made on both their lives.

If you ask his little to describe Denis, he would say Denis is like family.

Staying matched through the pandemic has been tough but Denis has shown his Little that he is here for a long time and all the good that is coming out of his Little Brother was always there – Denis is just helping him find it.

The in-person event was sold out pretty quickly but there is still a way to be a part of the evening.

Attendees can join Louise, the online host for the Trackside Virtual Event, where they can access and bid on the silent auction, play some amazing games and hear all the guest speakers.

Attendees can also purchase grand prize tickets that might get them a week in Antigua (courtesy of Pineapple Vacations) and two WestJet tickets anywhere they fly.
