It’s Non-Profit Appreciation Week in Ontario

GUELPH – The People and Information Network (PIN) will be noting the first Non-Profit Sector Appreciation Week in Ontario, which runs this week, Feb. 14 to 20.

“Non-Profit Appreciation Week is an important recognition for the efforts and impacts of the community benefit sector, their teams of staff and volunteers,” said PIN executive director Kim Cusimano in a press release.

“PIN is proud to support non-profits in Guelph and Wellington and we invite the community to join us as we say thank you.”

There are 58,000 registered charities and non-profits in Ontario who do vital, often humanitarian work such as providing support for cancer patients, answering distress lines, volunteering with food banks and running programs for children, youth and seniors.

They do anti-racism work, help the homeless and hungry and augment health and mental health services.

Volunteers contribute 612-million hours annually to community benefit organizations and their paid staff often work on shoestring budgets.

Non-profits employ some 844,000 workers in Ontario and contribute $65 billion to the economy, the release states. Non-Profit Sector Appreciation Week was introduced by Daisy Wai, MPP for Richmond Hill and the Bhayana Family Foundation.

“The Nonprofit Sector Appreciation Week will help ignite the passion and the performance of workers who are understandably exhausted and feeling burned out,” Wai stated in a press release.

“We need to celebrate these invisible champions in our communities. Their sense of dedication, powered by their personal vision and mission has supported them through many challenges, but our appreciation and support for them will go a long way.”

People can share their appreciation through social media at #nonprofitappreciationweek2022 and @PINnetworkGW.

“PIN encourages our community to learn, have conversations and recognize the immense impact of the non-profit sector,” Cusimano said. “Spread the word and give a shout-out to local organizations.

“The teams are champions and deserving of a week to be appreciated.”
