MINTO – The Town of Minto will be reopening all municipally-operated recreational facilities to the public on Jan. 31.
The re-opening coincides with the easing of mandatory public health restrictions introduced by the province on Jan. 5 in response to rising COVID-19 case numbers and hospitalizations.
All town- run programs such as public skating, shinny, walking groups and pickleball will also resume.
The Norgan Theatre will reopen for private rentals next week and weekend shows will resume in late February.
As facilities re-open and programming resumes, the town states in a press release that the following will be in effect:
- anyone aged 12 and older will be required to present a vaccine certificate with a QR code (on a device or printed) so it can be checked using the Verify Ontario app; and
- anyone with a medical exemption will be required to present a QR code to enter settings where proof is required (physician notes will no longer be accepted).
LaunchIt Minto will also be resuming regular business on Monday but the Minto municipal office will remain closed to the public for the time being.
“As always, continuity of essential services such as fire, water, wastewater, and road maintenance will be ensured,” town officials state.
The remainder of the municipal staff including building services, recreation, administration and economic development will be continuing to work from various alternate locations to ensure that staff are distanced properly, the release notes.
Residents are still urged to call the municipal office, follow the appropriate phone prompts and leave a voicemail. Staff will be checking their voicemails remotely, and will return calls when possible. If residents know the email address of the person they need to reach; electronic communication is encouraged. All staff emails are listed under the contact us section of the town website at www.town.minto.on.ca/contact-us.
Town officials are reminding the public to continue to wear a mask and wash hands regularly and get vaccinated or boosted when possible.
“It is critical that everyone continues to follow these measures to keep our great community safe,” the release states.
