A Life Well Lived. She was born on January 5, 1935 on the farm at Boothville in Grey County. At the age of 5, they moved to a farm on the 2nd of West Luther where she spent her childhood years until she married Alex Shaw in 1954. They lived the farm life on Wellington County Road 16 in West Garafraxa where they raised 3 children. After Alex’s death in 1992, she built a house on the corner of the farm and was remarried to Bill Shaw in 1994 until his death in 2004. She moved into Arthur in 2007 and the last few years at Strathcona Long Term Care in Mount Forest. She died quietly and peacefully in her 88th year with her family by her side at Strathcona. She is survived by children Bonny (Gord) McDougall, R3, Arthur, Doris (John) Hagarty, R1Moorefield and Doug (Susan) Shaw, home farm. Grandchildren Janet (Leo) Dell’Anno, Darryl (Tanya) McDougall, Jeffery McDougall (Sarah), Scott Hagarty, Linsdsay (Scott) Richardson, Ellen (Carter) Gringrich, and Alex Shaw. 5 Great Grandchildren, Brayden McDougall, Rylee Cox-McDougall, Gabi and Aspen Richardson and Chad Gingrich. Predeceased by her loving husband Alex Shaw(1992) and 2nd husband Bill Shaw(2004), her parents Roy(1979) and Helen(1990)(McEachern) Williams, Sisters Alberta(2012) and her husband Earl Lane(2001), Eleanor(1972) and her husband George Eden(2000) and Shirley(2011) and her husband Alvin White(2010). Also predeceased by Shaw family members, Stewart and Beth Shaw, Bill and Jean Shaw, Wes and Margaret Mossey, Agnes Givens and Dave Shaw. Will be missed by brother-in-law Leo Givens and sister-in-law, Gail Shaw. Joan was a faithful member and support to Grace Anglican Church in Arthur, serving on the ACW and later the Women of Grace in all their functions. She took on the farm tasks in all the day to day running of the farm, had a huge garden and was a devoted mother to 2 girls and 1 boy. Music has played an important role her whole life. As a teen she started playing a Hawaiian guitar. In the sixties, Alex learned to play the fiddle and she took up the mandolin. Then the Shaw Orchestra was born with Earl and Faye Shaw and Bob Jackson. With the music there was a natural progression to join a larger group, buy a camper and fill every weekend from May to September with the Original Gypsy Campers. Of all her volunteer activities, her greatest passion of 35 years was being a co-ordinator for the Canadian Cancer Society. The family received friends at the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Arthur on Sunday, January 23, 2022.
