Joan was a faithful member and support to Grace Anglican Church in Arthur, serving on the ACW and later the Women of Grace in all their functions. She took on the farm tasks in all the day to day running of the farm, had a huge garden and was a devoted mother to 2 girls and 1 boy. Music has played an important role her whole life. As a teen she started playing a Hawaiian guitar. In the sixties, Alex learned to play the fiddle and she took up the mandolin. Then the Shaw Orchestra was born with Earl and Faye Shaw and Bob Jackson. With the music there was a natural progression to join a larger group, buy a camper and fill every weekend from May to September with the Original Gypsy Campers. Of all her volunteer activities, her greatest passion of 35 years was being a co-ordinator for the Canadian Cancer Society. The family received friends at the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Arthur on Sunday, January 23, 2022. A private family service was held in the funeral home chapel on Monday, January 24, 2022, link to view the service is available below Joan’s notice on the funeral home website. As expressions of sympathy donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
