Passed away on December 24, 2021 at The Village of Riverside Glen in Guelph ON. Born August 25, 1929 in Ottawa ON, he is predeceased by his beloved wife of 68 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Shore. Predeceased by his brothers Tom and William and his sister Noreen, he is survived by his older sister Zilpha “Jill” Corrigan who is now 106 years old. Art’s spirit lives on through his sons Steven (Karen) and Blaine (Jeannie) and their families. He was the proud grandfather to Casey, Amanda and Dominique, and he was blessed to have two great-grandchildren: Athena and Magni. Art was known for sharing jokes with anyone who would listen, and he didn’t mind being the brunt of one either. Art played and coached minor hockey. It was while he was recovering from an injury that he met a lovely nurse named “Betty” and later married her. He enrolled in the RCAF in 1951 and retired after 31 years in the Canadian Armed Forces with the rank of Captain. Throughout his adult life, Art worked with numerous organizations in the service of others. He never looked for accolades, rather he quietly volunteered to undertake any task that needed doing. Extremely active in leadership roles in the Order of Eastern Star for most of their lives, Art and Betty remain lifetime members of Renfrew Chapter. They were known to travel across Canada and the U.S. to visit other chapters and share their friendship. Art and Betty moved to Elora in 2008 and enjoyed 10 wonderful years at Heritage River Retirement Residence before moving to The Village of Riverside Glen. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the staff at both residences for taking such good care of their parents over the years, and especially during the pandemic. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Graham Giddy Funeral Home in Fergus. No service will take place at this time. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Lower Litchfield Cemetery c/o C84 Calumet Road East, Shawville QC J0X2Y0.
