1922 – 2021 Betty passed peacefully away at Bethel Hospice in Inglewood, on December 2nd, in her 100th year. Family was by her side for many days at both Groves hospital, and the hospice, which gave everyone lots of time to reminisce. This helps to bring much comfort to the family at this sad time. Betty will now be able to join her loving parents, John and Ellen Hopkins, her husband Burt, her brother John Hopkins, her daughter Marsha Woodburn, and her favourite cousin in Birmingham England, Paddy Matthews. Hopefully they will all be having a cup of tea and a biscuit and having a good chat up in heaven. Betty had wonderful memories of her many trips to her beloved England to visit with family, and also to Denman Island B.C. where she visited her daughter and grandson Tevis and his family. She loved her Fergus apartment where she lived on her own until only a few weeks prior to her passing. This was enabled by all the great nurses and psw’s from Carepartners, Closing the Gap, and her close friends and neighbours, Carol, Kerrie, Denise, and Tanya. The family are very grateful for all their help and support. Betty will be missed by her son Doug (Kelly), her grandsons Tevis (Amanda), Ryan (Emma), and her granddaughter Stephanie. Betty also left 2 great grand daughters, Shayla, and Charlotte. She was really looking forward to meeting her 3rd great granddaughter Maisey, who was born 7 hours after Betty passed. We like to believe they did get to meet in Heaven, and Maisey now has an angel looking out for her. A private family service will be held for Betty and in lieu of flowers, donations to Bethel Hospice or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.
