Betty passed away as the result of an unexpected illness (not Covid) that progressed quickly with little suffering, surrounded by family and under the wonderful care of the staff at the new Groves Hospital. Predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob), her parents Stan and Marg Hill (yes that’s not a mistake) and siblings Arlene, Alvena, and Jim. Loving mother to Susan (Paul), Sharon, and Joe (Jen), and the best grandma that anyone could ask for to Kaleb and Miranda. Raised on a farm north of Acton, Betty found early independence living in a boarding house in Guelph and working in the cafeteria at the University where she formed many fond memories and friendships. It was at a Junior Farmers dance where she met Bob whom she married on April 6, 1963 and together they built a life, a family and a farm on the edge of Elora. Together they enjoyed curling, dancing and travelling, but mostly time with family and friends. Many of those friendships began with Junior Farmers and continue to this day. Always willing to volunteer she was a very active parent with the school, accompanying many field trips and helping at countless events. A gifted cook, baker, sewer, knitter, crocheter, and quilter, she was an artist in so many ways. She has been an active member of the Grand Quilt Guild since it began, serving in various positions on their executive. Through the guild she built many friendships that meant the world to her. Since Bob’s passing, just over a year ago, she proudly was building a new life of independence; moving to an apartment in Fergus, walking through the neighborhood daily and enjoying much deserved relaxation and time to herself. Her wishes were to be cremated, and in lieu of flowers, donations could be made to Groves Hospital Foundation, Diabetes Canada or The Kidney Foundation of Canada. The Family invites friends to gather at the Elora Legion on Sunday December 5th at 2:00pm for a Celebration of Life for Betty and Bob, followed by refreshments and fellowship. Proof of vaccination or negative test for Covid-19 are required as per Legion protocol.
