GUELPH – Guelph Arts Council’s fall 2021 programming includes three exhibitions at 10C Shared Space, and the Guelph Emerging Artist Mentorship Project’s culminating exhibition at the Boarding House Gallery.
Exhibitions at 10C Shared Space
The following exhibitions of work by Guelph-Wellington artists, presented by Guelph Arts Council in the street-level community gallery at 10C Shared Space, 42 Carden St. can be viewed on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9am to 3pm or by appointment by emailing programs@guelpharts.ca or calling 519-836-3280.
Ordinary People by Judith Elsasser, an accomplished Guelph figurative and portrait artist, is on view until Nov. 20.
These portraits in oil – familiar faces perhaps – are local examples of people who, in their daily work, have stayed the course throughout the pandemic.
“I endeavour to capture their stories on canvas,” Elsasser says of her work. “I have a passion to explore the beauty of the human figure and its revelation of the human soul.”
Amber Ozols will show a series of paintings in oil from Nov. 22 to Dec. 10.
Ozols plant imagery explores the experience of moving forward with grief and the psychology of resiliency and growth.

Joan Hug-Valeriote’s exhibition of quilted textile art Scapes, Scopes and Abstracts runs Dec. 11 to 31.
Hug-Valeriote is an award-winning professional quilt-artist who started quilting with traditional bedquilts and moved on to quilted landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes.
Join Hug-Valeriote at an opening reception on Sunday, Dec. 12 from 2 to 4pm.
Attendees are required to show proof of vaccination upon arrival.

The mentorship project supports artists, musicians and cultural managers in the critical transition to professional life, thanks to the support of the RBC Emerging Artists Project. GAC delivers programming in partnership with the University of Guelph’s School of Fine Art and Music.
The emerging artists involved in the current project round will present a culminating multi-arts exhibition project at the Boarding House Gallery, 6 Dublin St. S., Guelph in early December. Details will be announced shortly.
