Dear Editor:
November is here and it is Diabetes Awareness Month.
The Lions Club of Fergus are, once again, illuminating the Grand River pedestrian bridge in blue (the international colour for diabetes).
This year is significant because it was 100 years ago in 1921 that the team of Doctors Fredrick Banting and Charles Best (and their research team) discovered insulin and pioneered its use to treat diabetes.
Diabetes is a condition that has no cure to date, and by illuminating the bridge each year, we hope to raise public awareness and hopefully start people thinking, and maybe get a simple test to check their own personal health.
Brian Martin,
Fergus Lions Club
