GUELPH – Public health officials are warning local residents of a telephone scam targeting seniors.
A Nov. 3 press release from Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) notes that seniors in the region have received phone calls from someone who says they are a public health employee.
“This call – which comes from a 1-800 or 1-888 number – offers a free Medic Alert necklace in exchange for the recipient’s personal information,” states the WDGPH release.
“The public should be wary of any call claiming to be offering free products from [WDGPH].”
Officials are reminding residents the only calls public health employees are currently making are about vaccination appointments.
