GUELPH – The County of Wellington OPP is planning to open a collision reporting centre to streamline minor traffic accident investigations.
At the Sept. 30 meeting, councillor Dave Anderson, the county’s representative on the County of Wellington Police Services Board, advised county councillors of the plan.
Frontline officers will be able to direct those involved in minor collisions to the collision reporting centre, set to open in October, allowing them to be available for high priority calls for service.
“It allows our officers to get back on duty a little quicker,” noted Anderson
The reporting centre will be located at the OPP’s Centre Wellington operations centre on Wellington Road 18 in Aboyne.
Wellington County OPP detachment commander Inspector Scott Richardson said initially the centre will serve the county from the Centre Wellington location.
“Once we determine the viability and the success of it in Centre Wellington, we’re looking to expand it to the north and the south,” Richardson explained.
