ARTHUR – Two local young ladies are vying for the title of ambassador of the Arthur Fair 2021-22.
A competition on Sept. 10 will feature speeches and impromptu questions, virtually with three judges via Zoom.
The crowning of the new ambassador will be Sept. 12 between 1 and 2pm.
Clara Wilman
Clara Wilman, 18 years old resides near Arthur and is the daughter of Katie Normet and Philip Wilman.
She is a graduate of Wellington Heights Secondary School and has been employed by CJ Equestrian Centre for the summer.
She is attending her second year at the University of Guelph, Ridgetown campus, in the equine care and management program.
Wilman’s future plans include involvement in the equine business.
Her goal is to find what is missing from the industry and to be able to bring it to the business.
Her interest/hobbies are horseback riding, skiing, lacrosse, and agriculture.
When asked why she wants to be ambassador, she replied “I want to help educate more people about agriculture, connect with my community and become a leader in my community.”

Emma Smyth
Emma Smyth, 18, lives near Kenilworth and is the daughter of Victoria Smyth and the late Chris Smyth.
She is a graduate of Wellington Heights Secondary School and is currently employed full time with Norwell Dairy Systems of Drayton and part time at Matt and Sharon’s dairy farm near Arthur.
She is also enrolled part time in a business and marketing diploma program at Fanshawe College.
Smyth’s future plans include becoming a driving force for innovation within the dairy industry, making lots of friends along the way, travelling and one day owning her own dairy farm. Her interest/hobbies include farming, baking, reading, playing lacrosse and doing puzzles.
“I would love the opportunity to represent the Arthur community. I want to take my contributions and dedication to this town further and positively promote agriculture while doing so,” said Smyth.
“Participating in this program is already a step outside my comfort zone and is teaching me many new things. It excites me how much this program and experience can impact ones life and I look forward to continuing.
“I would also love to get to share and encourage this experience to other youth if I were to be ambassador.”
