GUELPH/ERAMOSA – A motor home has been destroyed following a vehicle fire here on the evening of Aug. 23.
After receiving a call just before 7pm on Monday evening, the Guelph/Eramosa Fire Department responded to what was initially described as a structure fire.
Firefighters arrived shortly after the call to a residential property near Seventh Line and 124, north of Everton, finding a recreational vehicle (RV) on fire.
“We had originally requested tanker support from other fire departments based on the fact that it came in as a confirmed structure fire but when we arrived and confirmed that it was just the RV then we cancelled the other responding fire departments,” Fire Chief Jim Petrik explained.
The motor home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on scene. No one was injured and the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
“We arrived and there were no exposures,” Petrik said. “No other buildings were nearby so there was limited risk of it spreading to the house. We arrived and then we just applied water and foam,” he explained, adding it didn’t take long to extinguish the fire and the site was cleared shortly after 7pm.
The fire was noticed by a neighbour who then called it in.
The homeowners were home at the time of the fire. They were planning to use the motor home to go on holidays the following day.
Petrik said the RV was an older model.
He estimated the damage at around $50,000.
