CVC issues warning on heavy rainfall amounts

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) is advising that Environment Canada is forecasting showers and thunderstorms that will move across the watershed this afternoon, producing heavy rainfall amounts of 30 to 50 millimetres.

Higher amounts will also be possible in locations with intense rainfall activity. This results in soil saturation in addition to moderate elevations in stream flows across parts of the forecast area due to the recent rainfall.

While flooding of the main Credit River and adjoining smaller streams is not expected, high stream levels and flooding in low laying areas vulnerable to floods can occur during these intense downpours.

As a result, local streams and rivers will become dangerous, especially in the vicinity of culverts, dams and bridges. CVC is warning that children and pets be kept away from all watercourses.

CVC is continuing to closely monitor weather and water levels in the watershed. The Watershed Conditions Statement for Flood Outlook will be in effect through Friday July 9, or until further notice.
