Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Shirley announce her passing on May 30, 2021, peacefully in her sleep at the Wellington Terrace in Fergus, ON. Predeceased by her husband Robert Slater (1993), husband Roy Giesel (2017), son Wayne and daughter Brenda. Shirley will be dearly missed by her son Grant (Kathy) of Francis Lake and her daughter Judy (Blair) of Arthur. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren; Anthony & Shane Slater and Alicia (Andy Franklin) & Jesse Rush, great grandchildren; Morgan, Brooklyn & Lexus Slater and Missy Blair Franklin, and stepsons; Doug & Wayne Giesel and John Tait. Shirley is survived by her siblings Betty McKitrick and Russell (Shelly) Grundy, as well as brothers-in-law/sisters-in-law; Loraine & Neil Hall, Len Vogel, Marion Grundy, Cecile Grundy, Hazel Johnston, Marion Fortin and Ann Giesel. Predeceased by her parents George & Florence Grundy, mother-in-law Florence Slater, siblings Robert & George Allen Grundy, Audrey (Gord) Bilton, Nancy Vogel and brothers-in-law Grant Giesel, Snoze Johnston and Don McNally. She was adored by many nieces, nephews and friends. Shirley was an enthusiastic and proud longtime member of the Elora Optimist Club. Special thanks to the excellent care of nursing staff at the Wellington Terrace. We appreciate everything you have done for our Mom. Special thank you to Dr. Stickney for your loving care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada, the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada, or to the Groves Memorial Hospital Foundation. Due to COVID restrictions a private family service has been held and a Celebration of Life will take place at a future date, when family and friends may gather safely together again.
