ELORA – On Sunday May 16, members of Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) District 18 Upper Grand will join educators and others across the globe in celebrating World Education Support Personnel Day.
World Education Support Personnel Day was first launched in 2018, when Education International hosted its first ever Education Support Personnel Conference held in Brussels, Belgium with the participation of around 60 educators from 36 countries.
The goal of the celebration is to recognize the core role these workers play in education systems, and highlight their experience and professionalism in providing quality education for communities.
Personnel includes public high school teachers, occasional teachers, educational assistants and early childhood educators among many others in education.
“World Education Support Personnel Day provides a great opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the crucial contributions education workers make to publicly-funded education here in Ontario and all over the world,” said OSSTF District 18 President Teresa Katerberg.
“From junior kindergarten through to post-secondary institutions, education workers of all stripes – education assistants, early childhood educators, speech and language pathologists, psychologists, school clerical staff, plant support staff, and many more – all play a key role in meeting student needs and ensuring an optimal learning environment,” said Katerberg.
“We invite the entire community to recognize the indispensable role of education workers, and to join us on Sunday in celebrating World Education Support Personnel Day,” concluded Katerberg.
