WELLINGTON COUNTY – Wages, benefits and expenses paid to the 16 members of Wellington County council totalled $928,962 in 2020, down about $50,788 from 2019.
The annual report on remuneration and expenses for county politicians was contained in a report from treasurer Ken deHart to the county’s administration, finance and human resources committee and presented to council Feb. 25.
With combined council salaries and benefits up slightly from 2019 levels, expenses, at $43,456, down from $103,315 in 2019, accounted for the reduction in total overall remuneration.
Centre Wellington Mayor Kelly Linton, who is Wellington County warden, took home the largest compensation package in 2020, with a salary of $132,573, plus benefits of $12,406 for a total of $144,979.
Linton also received $4,762 in expenses, bringing his total remuneration to $149,742.
All other council members receive a base salary of $42,325, plus benefits and expenses (see chart).
For the seven councillors who are also mayors of their respective municipalities, the county compensation is in addition to remuneration received from their home municipality.
County council benefits include the employer portion of OMERS and CPP as well as dental and extended health coverage.
Expenses include amounts reimbursed to officials plus amounts paid on their behalf.
