WELLINGTON COUNTY – Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) is reporting 67 new COVID-19 cases in the region over the weekend (March 5 to 7), including eight in Wellington County.
That figure is almost identical to the previous weekend (68), when cases rose slightly for the first time following a six-week downward trend.
Active cases in the region are now at 181, up slightly from 169 one week ago.
WDGPH’s latest case rate per 100,000 population is 46.8 (unchanged from a week ago) and its test positivity rate is 2.0 (up from 1.8%).
County trends
Wellington County had eight new cases over the weekend and now has 20 active cases, down from 24 one week ago.
The county’s seven-day average for daily cases, which is often used to indicate trends, is now 2.0, down from 3.29 one week ago.
Dufferin County had 17 new cases over the weekend and now has 41 active cases, up from 21 one week ago.
Guelph had 38 new cases over the weekend and now has 106 active cases, down from 119 on March 1.

Outbreaks
There are currently seven facility outbreaks in the WDGPH region, three of them in Wellington County:
- Royal Terrace Long-Term and Residential Care facility in Palmerston, one staff case, declared on Feb. 24;
- Wellington Terrace Long-Term Care in Aboyne, two staff cases, declared on Feb. 24; and
- Eden House Long-Term Care in Guelph-Eramosa, one staff case, declared on March 3.
Public health defines an outbreak as one or more confirmed cases of COVID-19 within a facility (long-term care home, retirement home or hospital).
An outbreak is declared over 14 days after symptoms began in the most recent case and when no other cases are suspected.
