Murray Group awarded contract for 12th Line culvert project

MINTO – Town council awarded a tender for replacement of three culverts on the 12 Line at its Feb. 16 meeting.

The successful bidder was Moorefield-based The Murray Group, which submitted a bid of $314,021, the lowest of two received.

The other tender, from a North York firm, came in at $397,205.

The Murray Group draws gravel from a pit on the 12th Line and a report by roads and drainage manager Mike McIsacc points out “they would have the opportunity to control the scheduling of the necessary road closures required to complete the required work, minimizing the operational impacts to their own facilities.”

The contract includes three culvert replacements, one identified as “end of useful life” in the biennial OSIM reports (Ontario Structure Inspection Manual).

Also included is the water proofing of two bridge decks, to preserve and extend the life of the structures.

McIssac told council sections of guardrail installation are included in various areas “to mitigate some of the local concerns in the bends and in around those structures in the area.”

The report notes paving of the 12th Line in the affected area is not included in the scope of the project and will be presented as part of the town’s 2022 capital budget.
