Mary passed peacefully on her own terms at St. Joe’s Guelph on January 30, 2021 in her 87th year. Mary will be forever missed by her children Jennifer (Kevin), Brian, Diane (Rudy), Robyn (Doug) and Margot (Marc), her sister Moira + many nieces and nephews in Scotland and stepsons Paul, James (d. 2011), Campbell and Andrew. Nana will be missed by eight grandchildren Sarah (Curtis), David (Natalia), Emily (Luis), Matt (Caroline), Marsha, Hayley, Ella, Matthew + great grandson Maxwell. Mom was born in 1934 in Scotland. She immigrated to Quebec at the age of 18 to be a nanny to four terrific girls in Sherbrooke. She met her schoolteacher husband Bill (d. 1985) on a blind date. Mom’s forte was helping others, specifically children. While living in Chibougamau, she started a kindergarten class. Moving to Sutton, she established a Brownie troop, ran a skier’s day care out of her home during the winter months & worked alongside her family picking apples in the fall. She worked at overcoming her fear of skiing & horseback riding as her children were involved. Our parents opened their home and hearts to many foster children over the years mixing them into their own family. Mom’s family expanded when she met her 2nd love, Harrison (d. 2004), whom she married in 1989. She loved her life on their mink farm and jaunting around in her red Barretta before transitioning to the more sedate Explorer. Three years ago, Mom moved to Highland Manor adding new friends to the old. She was a people person through and through. Thank you to all who have assisted Mom throughout her life’s journey. Until we meet again…. As per Mom’s wishes, there will not be a visitation or service. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Parkinson Canada, MS Society, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David Street South, Fergus.
