ABOYNE – Don’t neglect your health because of COVID-19 safety measures, say officials at Groves Memorial Community Hospital.
The hospital’s Ontario Breast Screening Program (mammogram) is fully operational during provincial stay-at-home orders.
Breast cancer screening is an important part of overall health and should not be put off – even during a pandemic, officials state.
Getting screened regularly with mammography is important because it can find cancer early when it is less likely to have spread to other parts of the body.
Treatment may also have a better chance of working when breast cancer is found early.
Kaush Patel, diagnostic imaging manager at Groves, emphasizes that it is very safe to get a mammogram right now.
“Our hospital continues to follow strict infection prevention and control measures to keep our patients and staff safe,” said Patel.
Patients can expect physical distancing measures, increased cleaning and sanitizing practices, universal masking, and healthcare staff is wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
To request a mammography appointment, patients can either self-refer by calling 519-843-2010 ext. 44705 or be referred by their doctor.
There is no cost to the patient for the breast screening service.
