MINTO – The Town of Minto will purchase two new pickup trucks for the water and sewer department from a Listowel auto dealership.
Council approved the purchase at the recommendation of water foreman Todd Rogers and sewer foreman Mark Robertson at the Dec. 15 meeting.
Larry Hudson Chevrolet submitted the lowest of three bids received in response to a tender. The town will purchase two Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickups at combined cost of $25,860, after trade in of two 2015 pickups.
‘A lot cheaper’
Both new vehicles are 2020 half-ton 4X4s, with extended cab and 6.5-foot box.
Accepting either of the other bids would have meant spending over $36,000 more in total.
“That’s a lot cheaper than the other bids. Is it the same truck are you getting? Something less?” asked councillor Ron Elliott.
“They met all the requirements that we laid out in our tender,” said Rogers, adding that he and Robertson “had the same concerns.
“So we went over and had a look at the units and, yeah, I think they’re going to work for what we need, for sure,” Rogers added.
