It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected death of Doug at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kitchener on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at 68 years young. Loving husband of Diane (Strangway) for 41 years. Doug was the proud father of Michael (Meghan). He adored and cherished his grandchildren Kaiden and Quinn Grace. Doug is survived by his sisters Edith (Grant) Fotheringham, Wendy (Jeff) Smeltzer and Betty McLellan, and sister-in-law Donna (Glen) Dougan. Predeceased by his parents Wilbert and Agnes (Ivel), parents-in-law Cliff and Alice (Charlick) Strangway, and brother-in-law John and Janie (Bartley) Strangway. Fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews and friends. Doug was a gifted Salesman for MDL Doors and always enjoyed talking to his clients. He was devoted to his community serving on Council for the former Arthur Township for four years and also as Reeve for two years. Doug sat on the Wellington County Land Division committee for several years and was co-chair on the committee to build the new Sports Complex in Mount Forest. Doug coached baseball and hockey when his son played. He also coached the Senior Girls Hockey Team winning Gold in the Walter Gretzky tournament and the OWHA ‘C’ Championship. He loved going to Home Hardware shows, playing euchre with the seniors and Shuffleboard. He knew how to have fun! Cremation has taken place. Due to Covid-19, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to the Louise Marshall Hospital Foundation or Cancer Patient Services.
