88.7 The River running first radiothon May 3

MOUNT FOREST – A marathon is all about endurance, so 88.7 The River’s Rob Mattice will be working on his preparation for May 3.

In support of the Let’s Build It Campaign, 88.7 The River will broadcast its first-ever 24-hour Radiothon. The goal of the campaign is to raise funds to build a splash pad in Mount Forest this summer at Lion Bill Moody Park.

“I’ll go on the air at 6am and stay on the air until we meet our goal, or for 24 hours, whichever comes first,” said Mattice, The River’s general manager.

“I’m excited that our first Radiothon will be for the splash pad project,

“It is something this community definitely needs. Normally, it takes up to six months to plan something of this scale, but to get the splash pad built this summer, we need to move very quickly.”

For the Radiothon, the station will have a temporary downtown storefront studio location for the day, at 103 Main St. N., Mount Forest.

“If it’s successful and we meet our goal, we just might do it again, for the right cause,” said Mattice. “I’ve been looking to do something like this since we started in 2015.

“I encourage everybody to drop in to our temporary studios, which will be set up at 103 Main Street North to donate.

“We’ll also have a special 1-844 number for people to call in their pledges.”

Saugeen Community Radio Inc. (88.7 The River) is a not-for-profit community radio station, operating out of 248-A Main St. N., Mount Forest. 88.7 The River’s airwaves cover from Fergus to Chatsworth and just west of Shelbourne to Mitchell.
