The fifth meeting of the Badenoch 4-H Smart Cooks Club was held at the home of Joan Law on March 9.
The roll call was answered by “if you could have anything you wanted for breakfast, what would it be?”
Answers included pancakes, donuts and ice cream.
Marion Hunter taught us the functions of different nutrients in your diet. We also learned about meat. We divided into groups to make white sauce from the mix we had previously made.
We learned how to make crepes. We used the sauce to make chicken dinner crepes. We also made cherry sauce for the dessert crepes.
The sixth and final meeting of the Badenoch 4-H Smart Cooks Club was held at the home of Joan Law on March 23.
The roll call was answered by “what recipe that we made did you like the best?” and “would you make it at home?”
Granola and chile were the favourites.
Lesson material emphasized again Canada’s Food Guide. What products fit into the meat and alternatives group? These include lentils cheese, nuts and eggs.
Meat can be purchased not only at the grocery store, but at the market or the butcher shop.
We divided into groups to make two spiced pumpkin cakes. These were delicious.
Marion Hunter distributed large chocolate Easter eggs she had made.
The meeting closed with the 4-H pledge and motto.
