Wellington Water Watchers is pleased to announce the events for 2Rivers Festival.
During the months of May and June, there will be 15 events taking place along or on the areas rivers and their tributaries.
Birding, paddling, singing, walking, catching, hiking, biking, restoring, dancing, pulling, and bioblitzing are the enticing activities that will be available to all ages and stages and all are free.
An historic walk, a crayfish catch, a concert under the bridge, a chance to learn to paddle a canoe plus much, much more are presented by local organizations through the 2Rivers Festival.
Organizers ask participants to register to confirm numbers attending.
The Speed River and the Eramosa Riverr are a source of beauty, pride and opportunities for rejuvenation and recreation organizers state..
“Guelph’s River System is its most important ecological, cultural and recreational feature. The restoration of our rivers is still in its early stages,” said Stan Kozak, one of the founders of the 2Rivers Festival in a press release. “We can create a future where Guelph is known as the place where two rivers meet and people walk, picnic, swim, and observe wildlife. By coming together in celebration and visioning, we can regenerate both our river ecosystems and our community.”
Festival organizers merged with the Wellington Water Watchers in 2015 and this year marks the fifth annual 2Rivers Festival to celebrate the ways Guelph citizens can enjoy, protect and learn about these watery arteries.
“We are proud to be the host organization for the annual 2Rivers festival,” said Arlene Slocombe, executive director of the Wellington Water Watchers, “And we are proud to promote the great work of the many local organizations hosting festival events. By encouraging meaningful connection with our local waters our goal is to inspire a greater sense of stewardship.”
The first event is the restoration walk on May 7 and 8 at the proposed future sight of the Yorklands Green Hub property at 2pm.
The final event is on June 25 in Elora and Fergus where the 2Rivers Festival has allied with the Confluence Festival for the first time.
All information is available in a booklet that can be found at the 2Rivers Festival web site 2riversfestival.org those interested in registering can also do so on the website.
