2018 tree inventory underway in Centre Wellington locations

Neighbourwoods Tree Inventory volunteers and summer staff are hitting the ground running for the ninth consecutive year.

They will be working in the field June and July measuring and assessing the health of trees throughout our community.

Neighbourwoods is among the longest-running Tree Inventory programs in Ontario. To date, volunteers have helped document over 11,000 trees; contributing to over 150,000 trees inventoried across Ontario.

Volunteers will be on the streets of Elora and Fergus wearing their bright yellow t-shirts. They will be recording many factors, from the height of the tree and width of the canopy to any cracks, rot, or broken branches.

As well as assessing new trees, volunteers this year will be returning to previously documented blocks to update their status.

Faculty of Forestry, University of Toronto, and local data produced a map illustrating the carbon being sequestered by trees in the community.
