WELLINGTON COUNTY – At the December meeting of 100 Women Who Care Rural Wellington, the winning charity was the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington and its Adopt-a-Family program.
A donation of $12,000 was made to support this program.
“In response to the escalating challenges posed by rising food costs and financial strain on families, our commitment to families during the past holiday season extended beyond traditional gift-giving for children and youth,” said Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington executive director Karyn Kirkwood.
“With a focus on food security, we pledged a minimum of $200 per family in grocery gift cards, and upwards of $400 for larger families, acknowledging the heightened grocery costs for families, especially in our rural communities.
“This substantial gift from the 100 Women Who Care Rural Wellington group significantly amplified our capacity with the Adopt-a-Family program, providing crucial grocery gift cards to families in need.”
Kirkwood said the collaborative effort “illuminated” the holiday season for 299 families across rural Wellington.
“The impact of these grocery cards extends beyond immediate relief, allowing families to create cherished traditions and memories over special holiday meals while preserving their dignity and autonomy in choosing the food that matters most to them,” she said.
The Adopt-a-Family program helped 1,585 families in Wellington County and Guelph this past holiday season.
